Raymon Grace Foundation sponsors vertical garden project
for Washington County 4–H Club

In May, the Foundation purchased a revolutionary vertical planting system from Verti-Gro Inc. This planting system is much more water efficient than traditional gardening methods.

After the system was installed, Nancy Grace, April Grace and Crystal Peek, the County Extension agent, cared for it.

April taught the 4-H Club how to use a vertical garden and emphasized that it uses only 20 percent of water compared to conventional growing methods.

She also taught them about the water cycle, how to reduce water consumption in the home, how to prevent water pollution and how to recycle water.

The tomato, squash, cucumber, peppers, lettuce and & bean plants thrived. They were picked and served for lunch to demonstrate how the children could grow their own food. April used this teaching opportunity to demonstrate that rainwater could be caught and used to water the plants, further reducing water consumption.

The 4-H Club members received a mini garden of plants to take home and tend.
